In conversations with my clients I notice that biostimulators are still sometimes confused with fillers. And it is not surprising — in both cases there is an injection, a needle and the promise of rejuvenation. The difference, however, is fundamental and worth understanding, because it concerns not only the technique but above all what happens in the skin afterward.

Fillers have one task — to mechanically restore volume. They add material where it has been lost, and the effect is visible immediately. Biostimulators work in an entirely different way. Once administered intradermally, they operate at the level of fibroblasts — stimulating them to produce collagen, elastin, glycosaminoglycans and the skin's own hyaluronic acid. They do not add volume from the outside — they activate processes through which the skin rebuilds itself from within. The effect develops gradually, but it is lasting and natural. This is the difference between "filling in" and "rebuilding" — and in the slow age philosophy, that difference matters enormously.

At our clinic we work with preparations based on two different, complementary mechanisms.

The first involves stabilized hybrid complexes of hyaluronic acid at the highest available concentration. The preparation combines two HA fractions — low-molecular-weight, which triggers a cascade of skin repair and regeneration, and high-molecular-weight, which serves as the primary component of the skin's scaffolding and density. Slowly releasing from the injection site, it acts like millions of tiny springs restoring lost contour, tone and firmness. This is neither a conventional filler nor a biorevitalizer — it is a bioremodeling concept that rejuvenates on multiple levels, refines facial features, counteracts laxity, smooths wrinkles and gives the skin biovolumetry.

The second mechanism is biostimulation based on natural polynucleotides. Once administered, free nucleotides activate receptors on fibroblast membranes, leading to stimulation of type I collagen production, fibroblast maturation and a powerful lifting and revitalizing effect — regardless of skin type. Polynucleotides also act as an "electrostatic sponge" — binding water through hydrophilic groups, they provide prolonged, deep hydration of the extracellular matrix. This is complemented by a strong antioxidant action — scavenging free radicals and protecting against oxidative stress. These two mechanisms do not compete with each other — they complement one another, which is why in many cases we combine them in a single treatment protocol.

Biostimulators are particularly recommended for mature skin showing visible signs of loss of tone, firmness and contour, for skin laxity and loss of tissue density, and for wrinkles resulting from diminished skin quality — not only from facial expressions. They also work well for dull, fatigued skin requiring deep regeneration and bio-reconstruction, for loss of facial profile and the appearance of so-called jowls. Increasingly, we also use them preventively — as part of a slow age approach, when the goal is to slow down aging processes before they become clearly visible.

And this is where I come to what I value most about biostimulators. This treatment fits the slow age philosophy in a way that is difficult to achieve with other methods. It does not alter facial features or mechanically fill wrinkles. It improves skin quality, density, firmness and hydration — so that the skin looks healthy and natural at every stage of life. This is not a "repair" treatment — it is an investment in how the skin will age.

Treatments are performed using needles with topical anesthesia applied beforehand. After the procedure, temporary redness, minor swelling or small bruises at injection sites may occur — this is a normal reaction that resolves within a few days. The full effect of biostimulation becomes visible after several weeks and builds over a series. The number of treatments, choice of preparation and intervals between sessions are determined individually — according to age, skin condition and the desired outcome.

Who are biostimulators not suitable for?
