Mandelic acid belongs to the group of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) and is derived from bitter almonds. For many years it has been used both in professional cosmetology and in home skincare. Its popularity is well-founded — it is one of the few acids that combines genuine effectiveness with exceptional gentleness.

Unlike many other exfoliating acids, mandelic acid works gradually and predictably. Its molecule is larger than that of glycolic acid, for example, which means it penetrates the epidermis more slowly. This is precisely what makes it well tolerated even by sensitive and reactive skin prone to redness and irritation.

How does mandelic acid work?

Mandelic acid gently loosens the bonds between cells in the stratum corneum, accelerating the skin's natural renewal process. The result is progressive smoothing, improved skin tone, and a more radiant appearance — without dramatic peeling or a recovery period.

Does skin always peel after mandelic acid?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions. The answer is: no. Visible peeling is not a measure of treatment effectiveness. Many people notice virtually no peeling after a mandelic peel, yet their skin gradually becomes smoother, more radiant, and more even in tone.

In cosmetology, the belief that more peeling equals better results is increasingly being left behind. What matters most is controlled skin remodelling and consistency of treatment — not dramatic flaking for a week after the procedure.
